Bath’s Guildhall is set to
host a spring fashion show where one emerging designer from the B&NES area
will see their creations on the runway alongside established brands.
The Elegance in the
Afternoon event is part of Cllr Karen Walker’s charity fund-raising campaign during
her tenure as Chair of Bath and North East Somerset Council and will include afternoon
tea in the grand setting of the Guildhall’s Banqueting Room. During the event
on Saturday 13th April guests will enjoy tea, cake and prosecco as models of
all ages show off the new summer 2019 collections, walking between tables to
give their audience a close look at the clothes.
Local textile designer
Clare Walsh has been chosen by Cllr Walker to show her work at the event. Clare
will be showcasing from her collection of hand-printed pieces which includes
kimonos, linen coats, bags and cushions. Her work was chosen in a competition
to find an emerging designer to feature among the established brands being
Clare was inspired to
create a method of printing directly from leaves and flowers, often from her
own garden in Tetbury, after studying at Love to Learn printed textile courses
in Bath with tutor Lyn Snow.
Details of all designers and their work will be announced to the audience by the compere, BBC Points West journalist Imogen Sellers.
Cllr Walker said, “We are really pleased to be able to support emerging local designers in this way. Elegance in the Afternoon will be a lovely, sociable event and we’ve teamed up with Bath College, whose students are preparing for careers as professional hair stylists and make-up artists, to work with our models on the day.”
“Fashion shows have always
been popular with the Bath crowds and I think this will be another lovely
social occasion for people to get together, enjoy a stylish afternoon in a
wonderful setting and raise money for three local good causes.”
All proceeds from the event
will go to the Chairman’s chosen charities, Dorothy House Hospice and the Motor
Neurone Disease Association.
Tickets for Elegance in the
